About the Song
"The Wide, Wide Land" from the album "When We're Together" is a tribute to MonaLisa Twins' grandmother which they describe as a successful and strong woman who had lived an unusual life in very unusual times but never gave in when it came to defend freedom, justice and respect for herself and others.
“Our granny lived with us for her last 5 years as she had a serious form of Alzheimer’s and needed full time care. She loved to take long walks in the fields where she used to stop in awe of the fascinating vast plains and comment it with the words "the wide land". Later, although gradually losing her memories and skills, she continued to express her love and communication with people and nature by other means than words.”
“Music had always been an integral part of her life, and so we played an acoustic version of this song for her memorial ceremony. However, for the studio version we found that African percussion merging into a marching band sound would fit the spirit best. We love and miss our grandma but are happy that she finally got freed from her pain.”
