Still A Friend Of Mine – Lyrics

Still A Friend Of Mine

You took your time
To speak your mind
Took every chance to disagree
Talked late night talks
Walked midnight walks
To find out what you wanna be

The same old lies
Just compromise
No angry voice amongst the crowd
A world of people keeping quiet as they’re told
You were the one to speak out loud

I wonder how the world would be
If everyone could see what you could see
Give me a sign
You’re Still A Friend Of Mine

No cash in hand
No promised land
Could ever put your mind at ease
When you made fun of all that stardom and fame
They said that you were hard to please

I wonder how the world would be
If everyone could see what you could see
Never in line
You’re still a friend of mine

We need the stubborn little child
That keeps the naked emperors
From running wild
So we might start to talk about
What we don’t dare to see
And maybe find the child
In you and me

You took your time
To speak your mind
Until the truth was plain to see
We’re run by maniacs by maniac means
And only love will set us free

I wonder how the world would be
If everyone could see what you could see
Never in line
Pearls before swine
After all this time
You’re still a friend of mine

A song that is absolutely beautiful both musically and lyrically. A captured feeling of someone we never met but means so much. I have a tear almost every time I hear this. An ode to John that speaks for so many of us. Thank you so much for this

Absolutely agree Tim. A beautiful song that speaks to so many of us. I’m not easily emotional but this one just hits something deep inside every time. Like you say, this is about as good as it gets

This is definitely one of the best songs on this album.
The lyrics are thought-provoking and subtly transcribed.
I love listening to the song and constantly watch the beautiful video, with Lisa & Mona singing so sweetly, Papa Rudi playing the piano & the violin & cellos accompaniment. It is so well done.

These are not lyrics to a song. They are the breaths of a living poem. They fly hand in hand with the melody of heartbeats buried deep in the love and understanding of a soul.
