How well do you know your MLT song lyrics?

I ran all 35 songs on the “lyrics and chords” page through an on-line word frequency analyzer, and found a total of about 500 different words that are used only one time.

Below is a list of the longest (excluding some ties) unique word contained in each song. Can you match each…

Tim, there seems to be a tide that raises or lowers all the songs together. There’s not a lot of relative movement up and down the “charts”. At some point (maybe at the end of this year) I’ll take a look the long-term variability in the total views and see if there’s any sort of pattern that would suggest a reason.

Yeah, it always surprises me how many indirect connections I had with future fame. Three kids that I went to junior high school with in Kentucky all ended up starring in Hollywood movies. Very forgettable ones, but Hollywood movies nevertheless.

It’s true! You can look him up on Wikipedia and verify that he’s from my hometown and went to my high school. Not strictly proof, but it’s pretty close.

I just checked the entry for my high school and found that of the ten “notable alumni” listed, I knew siblings of five of them.

I don’t find it creepy, Jürgen, but it’s not really my thing…

Fun fact: I went to high school with the older sister of one of the Backstreet Boys (Brian Littrell). She was in my German class, and she was very short, so the teacher addressed her as “Fraulein Little”.

Here are a few Halloween-adjacent songs from The Electric Company, featuring Morgan Freeman as Dracula:

This is my very favorite MLT video, Jung! It’s packed with clever and funny sight gags to augment the perfect musical execution. A feast for the eyes, ears, and brain all at once.

When my wife and I were first dating, Bus Stop became “our song” because of her habit of excitedly showing off whatever she had most…

My junior high band director didn’t like “one-e-n-a”. He taught us “one-tah-tay-tah” because it sounded more like proper tonguing of the notes. (However, for triplet notes he used “one-lah-lee”.)

It bothered me that there were two different “tah”s: why not “one-tah-tay-toe”? It would sound even more like “one potato”,…

Here’s another “Alone” that I heard on my wife’s bluetooth playlist. I have to say I like the name of the group more than the song.

This Garry Marshall show starring a lot of familiar faces didn’t last very long (and deservedly so), but I loved the theme song:

I love a lot of these songs! The theme from Angie plays in my head at some point almost every day.

The first time I ever saw Family Guy, I thought of this old show from my childhood. A lot of the characters look and/or sound similar.

The ads I remember along those lines always featured a turtle named Tippy, a bear named Cubby, and a pirate named Pirate.

Although I have no recollection of this song, I almost certainly heard it as a kid because I never missed the Hudson Brothers’ show on Saturday morning. It really sounds Beatley! And it’s not a kids’ song: it reached number 21 on the U.S. charts, and number 5 in Canada.

Here’s another song called Since You’ve Been Gone that can be added to the others:

I still have this little musical toy from childhood. You blow into the mouthpiece at the left and push down on the colored buttons, each of which opens up a “valve” above it that plays a different note of the scale. And of course you can play chords by pressing several buttons at once. It sounds kind of like a harmonica.

Here’s wishing you a successful recovery, Paul. You’re an integral part of this little discussion group!

I share that prioritization of song elements with you, Bud.

I’ll bet Mona and Lisa could do a dynamite cover of 99 Luftballons!

I didn’t notice Dunkelheit either, Bud, until it was brought up in this thread.

Hey, Bud.

Yes, I’m pretty familiar with Harry Nilsson, and I love “Everybody’s Talkin'” (both versions!).

My intro to Nilsson, of course, was via the Monkees. He wrote a catchy little song for the group called “Cuddly Toy”, and a few years later Micky Dolenz and Davy Jones starred in a stage adaptation of a musical that had…

Have any of you ever heard of this guy? I hadn’t, but I just read an article about him, intrigued by the characterization of him as a “one-man Beatles”.

I’ve attached a song released as a single from his first album in 1970, so you can judge for yourself. He recorded the whole album in his parents’ garage and played…

I don’t remember if that one came up, but feel free to suggest it if there’s another vote sometime!

Roman, Time in a Bottle was just recorded last December, and will probably be included on MLT’s next “Beatles and More” album. It was one of three songs/videos they recorded that month that were chosen by a vote by club members. Several of us noted that Time in a Bottle might bring in some new members that would enjoy the MLT…

Hi, Roman. I don’t think the word Dunkelheit has really penetrated the English language. I recognize it only because I studied German for a couple of years in college.

The theme song to one of those great BBC series that I eventually saw on PBS. I don’t know how I didn’t know this before, but I just found out that it was originally a track from an Eagles album.

I think I mentioned not too long ago that we did a simple little dance to this song in my grade school music class, which is where I know it from.
